Portrait of artist Lorna Crane in her studio

Process, place and repeated marks.

My approach as a professional artist is process-based, experimental and exploratory. The search for a sense of uniqueness has been an essential part of my investigations as a painter, printmaker and fibre artist.

Since moving to the far south coast of NSW Australia, my studio practice has given me the opportunity to delve deeper into my work. The places I inhabit are an essential part of the process, where memory echoes through the work.

At present my work is inspired by the surrounding landscape of the far south coast. I am making hand-made watercolours using locally sourced earth pigments, and creating expressive abstract paintings, works on paper and small canvases.

Inspiration is based around the Pambula River mouth and The Pinnacles at Beowa National Park, just south of where I live and just north of Eden.
