The Weight of Ochre

Grinding raw earth into colour, and letting the resistance of the pigment set the rhythm of the day.

Today was spent grinding raw earth gathered from the cliffs. There is a specific physical resistance in the material that digital interfaces can never replicate.

The grain of the pigment dictates the speed of the brush. It is not just colour; it is geological time transferred to the canvas.

In the finished work, that weight stays present as a quiet drag across the paper, a reminder that material has its own memory.
